Then she meets Caleb.
She saves his life and instantly knows there's something about him that's intriguing but she is supposed to be on her way to a date with his cousin. But things change when they touch, sparks ignite. Literally. They imprint with each other and she sees their future life together flash before her eyes. She learns that not only is she his soul mate, and can feel his heartbeat in her chest, but there is a whole other world of people with gifts and abilities that she never knew existed.
She herself is experiencing supernatural changes unlike anything she's ever felt before and she needs the touch of his skin to survive. Now, not only has her dad come out of his depression to be a father again, and a pain as well, but Caleb's enemies know he's imprinted and are after Maggie to stop them both from gaining their abilities and take her from him.
Can Caleb save her or will they be forced to live without each other after just finding one another?
During a chance encounter Maggie and Caleb meet, when shaking hands they imprint. They are soul mates or better known as Significant’s. Now imprinting is similar to the werewolf myth, however this book has nothing to do with wolves my friends, oh no this is a whole other ball game. Come delve into a world of power, rivalry, destiny/fate and the wonder that is known as soul mates. Let me start by saying Maggie is an awesome heroine and I love her, I am not exaggerating dudes in fact I’ll prove it with some examples. So what makes Maggie so great you say, well for starters she doesn’t conform to the stereotypical type of heroine you would expect in YA novel, observe peasants:
1. She’s very down-to-earth, making it easy for the reader to connect with her.
2. She handles herself extremely well when thrust into this unknown world, asking just the right amount of questions and having just the right amount of acceptance.
3. She doesn’t annoy you with the ‘I love him, he’s my whole world’ thing, it’s been used so often one gets tired of it very quickly.
4. She doesn’t claim to be anything or anyone other than who she is, I like characters to stay grounded.
5. There is no ‘insta- love’, I find it absurd when girls claim to love a guy after only just meeting him. Does she have strong feelings for him? Yes. Does she profess her undying love? No.
If that’s not enough for you, here’s an idea…READ THE BOOK! It practically speaks for itself and you’ll all love me for it, I mean hello if ever there was a must-read you’re freaking looking at it.
OMG Caleb! *sigh* the actual love of my life, one in a long line of my many book boyfriends he holds the #2 spot. Dudes by now you should know I swoon at practically all the heroes in the books I’ve reviewed, and I won’t be any different this time around. No word of a lie you will freaking love Caleb, it’s impossible not to and if you don’t then you are just not human! He is a real sweetheart, who handles everything so well. He’s protective, full of a freaking great personality and absolutely delicious *Mmm*. He all but lost faith of ever finding his significant, let alone meeting her the poor dear. But Maggie is special and this hunk got very lucky. Oh god and the way he is with Maggie *sigh*. He never pushes her into anything, he explains everything about himself and his kind so slowly and smoothly allowing her to come to grips with everything at her own pace. Much like Mags he doesn’t do the ‘insta-love’ thing but makes it clear he’d like to get to know her properly without this ‘supernatural stuff’ getting in the way. He is just so freaking and hot and cute I just melt into a puddle every damn time and you would too, don’t believe me? Pfft check this Exhibit A:
“Because you are my significant, my soul mate. And I'm yours.”
“I'll always come for you. I'll always find you.”
“I saw something in you that I couldn’t live without. I chose you, inside of me, and you chose me. It’s not one sided, it only works when both people choose the other. You are perfect for me in every way. I don’t want to scare you with it all. I mean, you’re so young and you don’t know me. Yet. But... We will always be drawn together. We’ll always crave each other. We’ll always be in tune with each other, physically and mentally. There is nothing that can change or break that. And even if there was, I wouldn’t want to. Not for the world.”
"It’s rooted in my blood to consume you and be consumed by you. To protect you. To please you, in every way. His fingers raked through my hair. To make you shiver when I touch you. And to his enjoyment, I shook with goose bumps. He smiled and skimmed his fingers down my arm. To cause your heart to beat faster. He tapped his finger over my heart as he’d done once before and it didn’t make me calm down any more than it had before. To make you happy, to do anything and everything with you, to date you, spoil you, love you... Marry you. So yes, I want to make love to you. I want to mutualize with you. I want to live with you. I want to marry you and have kids with you. But not today. Not right this second. We have all the time in the world, Maggie. I told you in the very beginning that I’ll let you set the pace and that still stands. I’m ready for anything, whenever you are but I’m not pushing you, ok? I’ve waited this long for you and I’m happy.
Now I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy inside, another reason for yet again why this book is amazing. Shelly truly blows you away, she lets you watch Maggie and Caleb progress into a real couple, getting to know one another steadily before all the drama begins. Although their romance is intense and yeah I’ll admit fast-paced (but hello they are soul mates), Shelly never makes it come across as forced or unnatural she sets the flow beautifully. Dragging us (willingly) into a world where ‘soul mates’ not only exist but mean everything, where it has the power to make and break you, and where there are those who would harm you. Why would someone harm you for finding your soul mate you ask? Well jealousy is big contributing factor but not in the sense of ex’s no you see there is far more to the world of Significant’s than you think. I shan’t reveal it as that defies the purpose of this review, if what you’ve read so far is not incentive enough, this mystery should definitely be. Well actually all the before stuff should DEFINITELY be and this should add to it. WARNING: The villains or ‘bad guys’, if you prefer, in this book will make you mad as hell, curse quite a bit and have you ready to commit bodily harm. PROCEED WITH CAUTION!
Shelly Crane is an amazing author, with the Significant series she freaking blew me away and had me hooked from the very first page. I give this book 5 GINORMOUS well deserved stars and recommend to everyone, you will NOT be disappointed trust me when I say it’s money well spent. Upon completion of the first book, which by the way didn’t take long (it’s that addictive), I purchased the next two in the series without even reading the blurb! God bless one-click settings. This book will have you on the edge of your seat, sighing in contentment, falling in love, cursing bad guys and craving more!
